About the Role
The Idera SQL Solution Architect is a critical member of the pre-sales organization and a key contributor to revenue growth and customer success. This role serves as the primary technical advisor during the sales cycle, helping prospective customers understand how Idera’s SQL Server management and monitoring tools fit into their
operational and governance strategies.
You will work closely with Sales to guide customers from early discovery through technical evaluation, demonstrations, and proof-of-value engagements. By combining deep SQL Server expertise with strong communication skills, you will translate complex database management concepts into practical solutions that
address real operational challenges across enterprise environments. This role combines strong database administration knowledge with exceptional communication and relationship management. You will work cross-functionally with Product, Support, Sales, and Customer Success to ensure customers receive timely, high-quality solutions to technical challenges.

Idera SQL Solution Architect
(Individual Contributor, Pre-Sales)
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to prospects and customers, supporting the sales cycle from discovery through proof of concept, demonstration, and technical close
- Design and articulate SQL Server monitoring, security, and management solutions using Idera products across enterprise database environments
- Lead technical discovery to understand customer SQL Server deployments, operational requirements, and infrastructure constraints
- Deliver compelling product demonstrations, workshops, and proof-of-value engagements tailored to customer environments and use cases
- Provide guidance on SQL Server performance monitoring, database maintenance, backup and recovery strategies, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Advise customers on best practices for monitoring, auditing, capacity planning, and database lifecycle management
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Product Management, and Marketing to ensure accurate positioning, feedback loops, and field enablement
- Support RFP and technical evaluation responses, including solution architecture and operational use cases
- Assist with onboarding activities and early-stage implementations as needed to ensure successful product adoption
- Stay current on Idera SQL product capabilities and broader trends in database administration, monitoring, and compliance
- 5+ years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server as a database administrator, database engineer, or database platform architect
- 3+ years of experience in a pre-sales, solution architect, or customer-facing technical role within a software or database management organization
- Strong understanding of SQL Server administration, including performance monitoring, query optimization, indexing strategies, and database maintenance
- Experience supporting enterprise SQL Server environments, including high availability and disaster recovery architectures (Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication)
- Familiarity with database security, auditing, and compliance requirements such as SOX, HIPAA, PCI, or similar frameworks
- Hands-on experience with database monitoring, backup, and operational tooling
- Strong SQL skills and the ability to analyze query performance and database behavior
- Experience designing and explaining database infrastructure solutions to both technical and business audiences
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple opportunities, and prioritize effectively in a fast-moving sales environment
- Experience with SQL Server monitoring and management platforms
- Familiarity with performance tuning tools, diagnostic utilities, and monitoring frameworks
- Exposure to database security, auditing, and compliance monitoring solutions
- Experience with hybrid infrastructure environments including on-premises and cloud SQL Server deployments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS for SQL Server)
- Prior experience with Idera SQL products such as SQL Diagnostic Manager, SQL Compliance Manager, SQL Safe Backup, SQL Defrag Manager, or SQL Inventory Manager
- Experience troubleshooting complex SQL Server performance issues in enterprise environments
